I have a request idea about Kuai Liang x reader; in the past timeline when Kuai Liang was sub zero, he and the reader were husband and wife before the restart of time, now in the new timeline, they meet for the first time where the reader goes on a trip to Fenjian for study in college where she runs into Lord Liu Kang and the Lin Kuei Trio and as soon as she lays on Kuai Liang both of them couldn't take their eyes off each other and feel a connection with each other and that "I know you somewhere" feeling. Can you write about that?
Again and again
A/N: ugh every request I get is so GOOD UR MINDSS I SWEAR!!
‼️I used Y/n in place of a name!! If you don’t like that don’t read it‼️
Warnings: none!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So if you didn’t know, Fenjian is a real village in Guangdong province, which on a map is a southern province( and if the maps prove correct) borders the sea
You’d come initially to Beijing for schooling, and it had done you well! You’d met good people and eaten good food. But..you just felt restless there.
A friend recommended reveling with him to visit family in Shanghai and then to Fenjian to see more of the country. You agreed excitedly, excited to not only experience more of the culture, but also get better at the localized dialects than just Mandarin or Shanghainese
As you traveled further down south, you felt your body relaxed this odd tension you’d felt since you arrived. You had been oddly tense, struggling with your speaking more than you had back home, and you felt more drawn to smaller Fenjian restaurants than the more popular and more crowded restaurants your friends dragged you to
Your stay in Shanghai was only about 2 weeks, and you made friends with your friends family and was welcomed back easily.
But when you arrived in Fenjian, the smallest village than you had experienced something just clicked. You took a deep breath of the fresh air and smiled. “This place is nice.” You said without much struggle. “You’re getting better! And you really think that? Fenjian is my home and I love it but…it’s boring!” She laughed at you, thought her mockery lacked any heat
“I’m from a small town! I can appreciate small towns!” You tried weakly. “We’ll come on! My uncle is waiting! Then, you meet Madame Bo! She’ll love your appetite!”
You let her pull you along through the dirt paths to her uncles house. Here, you noticed that speaking was..easier. You’d been practicing with the local dialect and apparently it had paid off. He was kind enough to laugh with you when you stumbled on your words or said the wrong thing
That night, you met Madame Bo. She spoke enough English to hold polite conversation and it helped you coast along with ordering on your own, which your friend complimented you on happily.
You said you were open to trying anything and that was how you and your friend ended up with basically the whole menu. “Here. This is braised snake porridge.” Madame Bo said, stopping to show you how to eat everything.
Upon realizing you had ordered too much, your friend looked around before locking with someone “Kung Lao! Raiden! Join us! Meet my friend!” They shared a look and shrugged, sitting across from you
You managed to introduce yourself relatively well, which earned more praise from your friend and Raiden. Kung Lao and you made fast friends, despite the language barrier. Your shared love for food bonded you easily enough.
I’m slow and awkward English he said “We have…go. We meet friend also.” You nodded and said goodbye, not expecting him to pull into a hug. “We are..friends now! So I hug you!” He laughed, which made Raiden roll his eyes. Raiden gave you a side hug before going to greet friends.
When your food was cleared, and the bill was paid (you’d gotten a discount from Madame Bo because “I’ve never met such a nice foreigner!”)
The sun had set already, and a small local band was playing happily for a small crowd of dancing patrons. “I’m going to dance! Join me if you want to!” And just like that, you were alone drinking your tea content with just watching your friend dance with Raiden and Kung Lao
“Oh hey! Another foreigner!” Was that fucking Johnny Cage? Yes, and he was sitting with you and trying to flirt with you.
He was really laying it on thick, but seemed to take it well when you turned him down. And the conversation after was about movie production—pretty interesting stuff actually
And finally, he got up to dance too, and left you alone again. You laughed lightly at your friends feeble attempts to get you to join them, and while distracted you were joined by a man clad in yellow.
“Not joining?” He asked kindly. “Oh no, I don’t dance. Not well anyways.” You shrugged, tearing your eyes away from your friend to look at him.
His left eye had a thick scar—that was evidently still healing— running through it, his dark hair pulled back cleanly enough to appear short, his eyes were sharp and combined with his bicep which was as big as your head seemed like pretty dangerous
But his thick lips were pulled into a small and kind smile. “Do you?” You quickly followed up with “Dance. Do you dance?” Kindly, the man shook his head. “I do, but certainly not like…that.” He pointed his head to Johnny Cage (how the fuck did he know him?) who at first glance appeared to be…flailing
“Mm. My name is [Y/n]. What’s your name?” “Kuai Liang, I must say Johnny is the foreigner I’ve seen here.”
Laughing softly you pointed to your friend “I’m here for school on an exchange program. And to get better at my speaking. My big accomplishment was ordering with minimal English tonight.” Kuai Liang nodded, leaning forward
“How exciting! Are you staying in Shanghai? No, no that can’t be right. Beijing. You’re staying in Beijing!” He declared, mostly joking. “Uh-yeah! You a psychic or something?” This made him laugh harder at his shock.
“Kuai Liang, I see you made a friend.” A calm voice said with a kicking edge. “Do you mind if I join you?” The man asked you. “No of course not!” The man sat next to Kuai Liang, looking between the two of you with an odd look.
Liu Kang did not add much to the conversation between you two. And was mostly zoned out, suddenly struck with memories he’d long since buried, he tried not to dwell on them.
“I…perhaps this is odd to say, but I feel like I know you. Perhaps we have met before?” Feeling emboldened you denied it “Id remember a face like yours, you’re too handsome to forget.” Kuai flushed.
“You’re too kind, [Y/n]! But you are right, a face as beautiful as yours is too hard to forget…perhaps I could try and teach a few slower dances? The band is finally slowing down it seems” Liu Kang watched with a fond smile as he guided you through a dance
Looking down at the tea cup clutched between his hands, he nodded to himself. He’d made the right choice when he was weaving the fabrics of time and humanity together. When you were struck down with Hanzo, he was the one to comfort Kuai Liang
And when he started molding worlds to his desires, and creating life itself he created you from memory—someone seeking knowledge, someone kind and loving and gentle, and when needed a fighter.
As the night progressed, Liu Kang stayed and watched you both. He had only heard second hand snippets of your meeting with Kuai Liang, after you died alongside Hanzo he was too struck with grief to speak of either you with anyone for more than a few sentences, but especially you.
Your name and your stories were his ways of keeping you with him, and sharing that meant sharing you. Kuai had lost you already, and he was not willing to share your memory now. Hanzo had many friends on the team, you were as far separated from them as possible.
So now, seeing you as a dynamic and real person and not a painting or drawing was an opportunity he felt he couldn’t miss. Was he the god fire and keeper of time? Yes! Could he rewind time to see this as many times as possible? Also yes! But he wouldn’t abuse that power, he would see it now in real time.
At the end of the night, when Madame Bo was cleaning up and you both had finished off another pot of tea, you yawned. “Excuse me, I’d better go. But it was nice meeting you.” Kuai Liang felt panic surge through him and he called out for you. You turned with a confused look
“I’d like to see you again sometime soon. Is that okay?” “More than okay. Tomorrow maybe?” “I’ll be here then. Noon sharp.” He declared firmly. Giggling you said Goodnight Kuai Laing. I’ll see you tomorrow.” And pressed a chaste kiss on his cheek before feeling the restaurant. Leaving him red in the face with an ear spitting smile on his face.
Oh yes, staying was the right choice
Kuai Liang had been lonely for many years. His ice abilities had created a wall around his heart that could not be moved.
It was not until he had made peace with Hanzo—and was convinced to go out to a local restaurant—did that change
You were sat watching the small crowd dance, and clapping along softly. Hanzo noticed this, and to his dismay forced him into sitting across from you
“Not joining?” He asked awkwardly. “Oh no I don’t dance. Not well anyways. Do you? Dance, I mean?” He shook his head
“No, not like them. I know a few slower dances.” You nodded smiling softly. He felt the ice around his heart crack at the gesture. “Hm. Well, my names [Y/n]. Nice to meet someone who isn’t insistent on dancing.” Kuai felt a smile tug at his face. “Kuai Liang. And that man, in the yellow is my friend Hanzo. Forgive my bluntness but I’ve never met a foreigner here before.”
Unphased by his words you smiled wider “I’m in an exchange program! I’m staying in Beijing. But visiting friends family. And working on my speaking.”
Kuai nodded and the conversation flowed throughout the night. Through attempts at dancing together, through lots of tea, and plenty of teasing from your friend and Hanzo
At the end of the night, Kuai insisted on walking you back to where you were staying. Your friend had already left you and Hanzo had gone too. You walked slowly through the cool night, the conversation did not stop and even on the doorstep were hesitant to say goodbye
“I’d like to see you again sometime soon. Is that okay?” “More than okay. Tomorrow maybe?” “I’ll be here then. Noon sharp.” He declared firmly. Giggling you said “Goodnight Kuai Laing. I’ll see you tomorrow.” And pressed a chaste kiss on his cheek.

Southern Laos, Off the Beaten Path
2 years ago, as part of my Indochina trip, I visited Laos, and I must say it was a revelation. I didn't expect much considering it's landlocked, and the train was just newly-opened that time. I travelled from central to the northern region — Vientiane to Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang.
This time, from central to the southern region, the less-travelled provinces of Laos — Vientiane to Savannakhet to Pakse to Paksong to Champasak. A random trip that turned really well.
12 days of adventure, walking, biking, hiking, coffee shop hopping, eating local food, and discovery. ANOTHER ONE FOR THE BOOKS!

Adventuresses We Love – Sarah Marquis Many of us like to walk or hike, be it for exercise or just for fun. Adventuress Sarah Marquis, though, takes it one step beyond.
In 2010, Marquis set out for a walk like no other. She began her trek in Siberia then headed south, pulling a cart with her clothes, equipment and supplies behind her. She’d battle sandstorms, mudslides, and extreme weather along the way, and that wasn’t all.
One night, camping in the Gobi Desert, she found her tent surrounded by howling wolves. The experience left her feeling a “sense of belonging to the planet.” This was in addition to the regular visits by drunken Mongolian horsemen.
In the southern Gobi, Marquis was forced to leave the trail to seek treatment for a periodontal infection. Once that was cleared up, she returned to the exact spot she’d left off, and continued on.
Crossing into China presented its own challenges. Here, Marquis traveled disguised as a man, because “…any woman alone is considered a prostitute.”
In Laos, her life was threatened both by dengue fever, and by gun-wielding drug lords who attacked her camp. She survived both. Finally, she arrived at the coast of Thailand. Here, she caught a ride on a cargo vessel and made her way to Australia.
Where she started walking again.
She would cross the breadth of Australia. After 1,000 days, 10,000 miles, and 3,000 cups of tea, this journey would end under a specific tree she’d picked out 10 years earlier. For this feat, she was named the 2014 National Geographic Explorer of the Year.
As amazing as this journey was, it’s only one of Marquis’ many adventures – and she’s still adventuring today. To learn more, visit https://www.sarahmarquis.com/

Laos, often overshadowed by its more famous neighbors like Thailand and Vietnam, is a paradise for trekkers. The country is known for its rugged landscapes, dense forests, and scenic mountain views. Trekking in Laos allows you to experience nature up close while learning about the diverse ethnic groups that call this land home.
Here are some key reasons why Laos trekking tours are a must:
Unspoiled Natural Beauty Laos is often referred to as "The Land of a Million Elephants" due to its rich wildlife and incredible natural scenery. From the thick jungles of the Bolaven Plateau to the towering limestone mountains in the north, Laos is a trekker’s paradise. You'll encounter stunning waterfalls, river valleys, and panoramic views that make each step more rewarding than the last.
Cultural Immersion Laos is home to over 20 different ethnic groups, many of which live in remote villages that are only accessible by foot. Trekking tours give you the unique opportunity to meet these communities and gain insight into their traditional way of life. Whether you're staying with a village family, learning about local farming techniques, or experiencing a traditional Lao festival, these encounters add an authentic cultural dimension to your adventure.
Variety of Trekking Routes From gentle, short treks to more challenging multi-day hikes, Laos trekking tours offer a range of experiences suitable for trekkers of all skill levels. Popular trekking regions include Vang Vien, Luang Prabang, and the northern highlands around Oudomxay. Top Laos Trekking Tour Destinations
Luang Prabang and Surroundings The UNESCO World Heritage town of Luang Prabang is the perfect starting point for a trekking adventure in Laos. Vang Vien Vang Vien is famous for its dramatic karst limestone mountains and caves. Known for its coffee plantations, waterfalls, and tribal villages, the Bolaven Plateau provides a peaceful escape where you can hike through forests and learn about sustainable farming practices while experiencing the local way of life.
The Northern Highlands For those seeking a more challenging trek, the northern highlands around Oudomxay and Phongsali offer some of the most remote and rugged terrain in Laos. Trekking here involves steep ascents, dense forests, and visits to minority villages where traditional customs are still alive. The region's isolation and untouched beauty make it an unforgettable trekking destination.

The Loss of the Luggage & The Surely Shirt Elegy
Tumblr media
When you get on the train in Ella, in the heart of tea country in Sri Lanka, the magic and excitement of an open-air cruise through the twisty, verdant mountains lasts for a few hours. The open windows are a novelty, shortening the barrier between the inside and outside world.
Tumblr media
On a bus to the border with Laos, and thrilled, 2009.
Then, ennui sets in: the screeching brakes and metallic noises make all conversation impossible. Then a puking toddler (Leia couldn’t stop on this swaying, rocking, bumpy train car) keeps you constantly reaching for wet wipes and new clothes. Once the 8th hour hits, and outside an inky nightsky blackness seeps into the train car, and the train exhaust pores in through the open windows, mixing with the trackside field and trash fires, you are literally choking for air.
Tumblr media
Don Dhet Island, southern Laos, 2009.
You still have at least 2, maybe 3, more hours to go. Mosquitos rise up out of the seats, biting your ankles, and spiders rapel from the cobwebby ceiling. The tourists on the train car have all but vanished, getting off the train way back in the tea stations, replaced by local Sri Lankans. You are seated backwards and the last few hours of the journey the train picks up speed, shuddering like something out of a horror film.
Tumblr media
Angkor Wat, 2009.
When the train finally lurches into Colombo Fort station, brains are fuzzy and bodies are crushed. You assemble all the luggage from the ceiling racks, ready for offloading onto the platform, and when it’s time to move, you wrangle the suitcases and backpacks off, along with two zonked children and a weary wife. All seemingly accounted for, you scurry off the platform pushing two wheeled suitcases and a backpack and a shoulder bag, family in pursuit. We find our pre-booked taxi, give a quizzical look to the driver when the bags are loaded in the back and it seems rather minimal.
Tumblr media
Christchurch, New Zealand, 2010.
It takes five minutes of driving through Colombo traffic to realize it: You left one piece of luggage—an Osprey Porter 65 Liter bag—back on the train car. How could you miss it?! Quickly you scan through its contents in your mind: mostly dirty laundry, an old pair of shoes you were planning on getting rid of, a ziploc bag of toiletries, a few rain jackets, some quick-dry towels, a flashlight, bucket hats. Just as quickly, despite the value of some of the clothes and the bag itself, you give it up for lost.
Tumblr media
Cutting bread for host family, Assela, Ethiopia, 2011.
Let’s go back, says the family, but you are on the way to the airport to catch a flight; the train was being moved from the station soon after all passengers were clear; it would add another 30+ minutes to the journey. There’s a minuscule chance the bag was found by a conductor, handed to some station agents, and might be waiting for you back at the station. But it’s a tiny chance, and not worth it. Every bone in your body simply wants to move closer to the airport, closer to home. There’s still 8 more hours of flights, 8 more hours of waiting in airport terminals.
Tumblr media
29th birthday, Bonga, Ethiopia, 2012.
Compared to a wildfire consuming your every known possession (including your house), the loss of a piece of luggage is nothing. Lost luggage happens all the time, even with the pieces that are securely checked at the airport. And yet, sentimental items are just that: they affect the sensory and mental faculties.
Tumblr media
A village in the Western Ghats, Kodaikanal, India, 2012.
Of all the items lost, the most dearly missed will be the indestructible T-shirt you bought at a Sure boutique shop in Bangkok, Thailand, in late 2009. The cotton felt eternally soft; it stretched enough to never get a hole; the fit was both form-fitting and loose. The bright red color never faded; the screen-print of sunglasses never lost its cool.
Tumblr media
Visiting a friend's house in Chi'ri, Ethiopia, 2013.
You wore the T-shirt throughout your travels, usually and especially during warmer weather and trips to the beach. (Heck, you even wore it while proposing marriage!) In 2013, when you had friends visiting Thailand, you asked if they could buy you another one. It didn’t work out, and you’ve never been interested in buying one online. You need to go back to Thailand, find a shop, try another one on, buy it if it still feels like quality. Most products that are perfect and built to last usually degrade on newer versions, prone to cost-cutting capitalist mediocrity, so you’re not holding your breath.
Tumblr media
El Pescadero, Mexico, 2015.
You think, now, about the fate of your Sure shirt, in Sri Lanka. Who found the bag? What ended up happening to all your dirty laundry? Did someone claim it? Donate it? Is it still gathering mildew at the Fort Colombo train station lost luggage? Also lost was your bright green Patagonia running shirt (lasting over a decade), your blue Patagonia swim shorts (7+ years), your Patagonia rain shell (7+ years—sensing a pattern here in quality and price over cheap and abundant) and various other items that probably won’t last more than a few years. You picture someone wearing your clothes, giving them new life.
Tumblr media
Shortly after proposing marriage, Preveli, Greece, 2019.
In one sense, losing an entire bag of clothes is liberating. When you got to the Colombo airport, and had one less bag to check, and you got to the taxi in Bucharest, with one less bag to schlep into the trunk, you feel that much lighter, freer. Baggage is just that: it weighs you down. It also, sometimes, holds the material things most dear.

How long does it take to change a person's destiny?
Sometimes, a moment is enough.
At least, that's how it was for Frank Lucas.
Frank Lucas was born in a small town in the southern United States in 1930. According to the normal trajectory, he should have gone to school in a black school like most black Americans, and if he did well in school, he would go to college. If he did not study well, he would find a manual job or join the army . In short, that would be his life.
However, everything changed when he was 6 years old.
That year, Lucas's cousin ran for mayor. He was not in an advantageous position at first, but unexpectedly he was elected.
For 6-year-old Lucas, this was a huge happy event. There was nothing more impressive than shouting in front of other children, "My brother is the mayor."
However, at that time, the United States had not yet experienced the "I Have a Dream" movement, racial discrimination was very serious, and the KKK was rampant. When Lucas' family was celebrating his cousin's success in the exam, a group of KKK members broke in, poured gasoline on his body in front of the whole family, and then set him on fire, burning him to death.
Afterwards, no one was held accountable and no one was punished.
This incident had a huge impact on little Lucas. He was originally a kind and honest child, but he turned into an avenger full of hatred and violence towards white people.
In the next ten years, Lucas Jr. either burned white people's mailboxes, stabbed white people's cars, and even set fire to police cars, so by the time he was 16, he had already become a well-known villain.
He was then spotted by Ellsworth Raymond Johnson, a gangster who also hated white people.
Johnson is no ordinary person. He was the ruler of New York's underworld from the 1930s to the 1960s. The American TV series "Godfather of Harlem" tells his story.
With Johnson's support, Lucas worked his way up from a driver to a middle-level manager.
However, unlike other middle-level executives who run underground casinos, collect protection fees, and hire killers, Lucas's business scope is drugs.
Lucas came at a good time. The entire 1960s was a period of explosive growth for the American drug market.
At that time, the United States had just intervened in the Vietnam War. For the benefit of capitalists, young Americans died one after another in the quagmire of Vietnam. The government wanted to expand conscription, but college students were not as easy to fool as high school students. Anti-war movements broke out in various universities.
But what? This anti-war movement is different from the march with placards as we know it. Instead, a large group of people went to an open space, listened to a concert, drank beer, and shouted "Make Love, Not War". Then, if men and women fell in love with each other, they went into tents and had a wild time. There was no sign of anti-war at all.
To put it bluntly, these young people are just squandering their hormones under the banner of anti-war.
Lucas keenly noticed this track and thought about expanding the market and becoming the drug king of New York.
But the question is, where do the drugs come from?
At that time, neither the Golden Crescent in the Middle East and West Asia nor the Silver Triangle in South America had yet developed. The largest source of drugs at the time was actually the Golden Triangle located at the junction of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar.
Coincidentally, the Golden Triangle is very close to where the United States fought the Vietnam War.
After Lucas personally visited suppliers, the Golden Triangle became a new source of drugs for the New York drug market.
Now that we have the source of goods, how do we transport them back? Along the way, there are customs, anti-smuggling, and coast guards. Should we transport them directly? There is no guarantee that the goods will not be inspected. Should we bribe them? There are too many gods and the cost is too high.
Then, the quick-witted Lucas came up with a brilliant idea: buy drugs from the Golden Triangle, transport them to South Vietnam through the channels of Laos (there was a US military base in Laos at the time), then make a hole in the bodies of the dead American soldiers, stuff the drugs in, and use the bodies of the dead soldiers as a tool for drug transportation, and return home directly on a US military transport plane without going through any customs inspection!
To be honest, American drug enforcement police would never think of such an idea. Even if they did, would you dare to risk desecrating the honor of soldiers by dissecting and examining the bodies one by one?
It was with this "genius" idea that Lucas became the biggest drug dealer in New York. After Johnson's death, he naturally became the new godfather. The movie "American Gangster" was based on Lucas.
However, there was a bug in Lucas' plan, which was that it required the cooperation of military personnel, otherwise the job could not be done.
The person Lucas bribed in the US military was called Melvin Combs. Although he was only a major in the Air Force, he was in charge of the entire transportation of the bodies.
The two of them worked closely together to make the company bigger and stronger and create greater glory.
But unfortunately, this business cannot be done for a long time because soldiers will retire.
In 1971, Melvin Combs retired and his value was greatly reduced, but Lucas still took into account their old friendship and handed over the drug business in a district in New York to him.
Melvin Combs, who was a military man, obviously had no talent for drug trafficking. His business was shut down by the police not long after it started, and Melvin Combs was arrested.
But not long after, the police inexplicably released Melvin Combs!
This aroused Lucas's suspicion. Could it be that you are a cop's accomplice?
In order to prevent his secret from being discovered by the police, Lucas arranged for his men to shoot and kill Melvin Combs in his car on Central Park West.
You see, this is how gangsters are, they only care about interests, not loyalty. Even though they worship Guan Gong, if something really happens, they will even betray Guan Gong.
However, what Lucas did not expect was that his shot changed not only the fate of one person, but the fate of the entire country.
Melvin Combs died, leaving behind a 3-year-old child, Sean Combs, yes, he was later known as "Puff Daddy".
The 3-year-old child has no memory of his father, and his mother, Janice Combs, has always told him that his father died in a car accident.
However, little Sean always felt that something was wrong.
Why does my mother always avoid talking about my father's occupation? Why does my family always have endless money even though they don't work much? Why do the police come to my house from time to time to question me?
All this was not known until Sean went to middle school. One day, he was doing research in the library and saw the newspaper from that year. He learned that his father had died of a gunshot wound and that his father's job was not glorious either. He was a drug dealer.
At that moment, my father’s glorious image completely collapsed.
From then on, Sean began to feel inferior, and the other side of inferiority complex was his urgent desire for recognition.
Just like Koreans nowadays want to grab everything, want to be the first in everything, and want to be in the spotlight in everything. In fact, it is all to cover up their inner inferiority. It is a complex psychology.
Sean's growth path is full of this kind of limelight that comes from inferiority complex.
In junior high school, for example, he posed as a child model for Essence magazine, and in high school he danced as a backup dancer in several videos for Diana Ross and the band Pretty Young Cannibals.
The most typical example is that after his family moved, he envied the swimming pool of the white family across the street. He wanted to go swimming, but was rejected by the white children.
Sean, whose self-esteem was hurt, asked his mother to build a swimming pool at home. Then his mother not only built it, but also built the largest swimming pool in the entire neighborhood.
As a result, all the children had to ask Sean for permission before they could come in to swim, and Sean became very proud of himself from then on.
Sean's hot-tempered personality earned him the nickname, "Puffy."
This style of being in the limelight continued until Sean went to Howard University. In the eyes of his college classmates, although Sean was a black man, he always had a tenacity that made you accept him. This also allowed Sean to successfully open up the situation in this predominantly white university and become a celebrity in the social circle.
Perhaps in order to exercise his organizational skills or to meet more people at parties, Sean often participated in organizing luxurious parties in college, some of which had up to a thousand people.
You know what, at the party, Sean actually met the person who changed his destiny - Andre Harrell.
Andre Harrell is the founder of Uptown Records. He felt that this black guy had great potential, so he gave him an intern job.
For a "qigugu" who is eager for exposure, what could be better than entering the entertainment industry to gain higher exposure?
When Sean heard this, he immediately dropped out of school and joined Uptown Records.
Maybe everyone has their own suitable field. After Sean joined Uptown Records, he felt at home like a duck in water. In just a few months, he climbed to the position of A&R executive and served as creative director.
During this period, he helped discover artists such as Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, and rapper Christopher Wallace, demonstrating his potential as a music producer.
In 1992, Sean and Harrell had a falling out. Sean, unwilling to be bullied, left Uptown with Christopher Wallace and went solo to establish Bad Boy Records.
In 1994, Christopher Wallace released his first studio album, Ready To Die, which received widespread acclaim and quickly sold millions of copies. With the success of Christopher Wallace, Sean began to expand the Bad Boy Records lineup, signing artists such as Faith Evans, Mase, and Total and creating music for them.
At this point, Sean became a well-known ace music producer in the circle.
Of course, this is far from enough. He is not satisfied with staying behind the scenes and wants to step to the front!
In 1996, Sean released his first hip-hop single "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down" under the name "Puff Daddy", which eventually won the Billboard Hot 100. On July 22, 1997, he released his first studio album "No Way Out", which immediately won the Billboard 200 album chart with first-week sales of 561,000 copies, and its subsequent cumulative sales exceeded 7 million copies!
At the 40th Grammy Awards on February 25, 1998, Sean won the "Best Rap Duo/Group" award for "I'll Be Missing You" and the "Best Rap Album" award for "No Way Out". He subsequently won two consecutive Grammy Awards, was selected as one of the 100 Most Influential People by Time in 2006, and was inscribed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2008.
Sean became completely famous, and his nickname "Puff Daddy" became famous all over the world, and people often called him Diddy affectionately.
If we must make an analogy for his status in China, you can think of him as a combination of The Voice mentors. In the music circle, he is definitely someone who can shake the world with just one stomp of his feet.
However, no one realized that behind Diddy's music empire was a terrifying dark empire.
As mentioned earlier, Diddy was keen on hosting parties when he was in college, and it was because of the connections he made at the parties that Diddy achieved his later success.
After becoming the godfather of music, Diddy had more resources, the parties he held became bigger and bigger, and the content became more and more exciting.
Here, in order to make it easier for everyone to understand, we need to explain the differences between American parties and Chinese parties.
Chinese-style parties are usually organized around family or close friends. People usually come at mealtimes and cannot come empty-handed. Some guests may even help in the kitchen.
The theme of a Chinese party is to eat and everyone will comment on the food, tell some jokes, and drink some wine (usually without getting drunk). After eating and drinking, people start to act according to their interests. Some people play mahjong, some play games, and some chat about gossip. Some young people also play script-killing games and truth or dare at parties.
Everyone can understand these scenes, but American-style parties are completely beyond the imagination of Chinese people.
There are actually many American parties, such as birthday parties, Christmas parties, surprise parties, pajama parties, masquerade parties, etc., but the most popular, most participated and largest-scale party in the social circle is still impart.
Impart is a Chinese made-up word, which means: porn party.
The themes of the party were sex and drugs.
For example, someone once translated and uploaded an old version of "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" on YouTube. In the episode where Cao Cao sang "Short Song", because it was considered a banquet, it was translated faithfully and elegantly into "Cao Cao's Big Party".
Americans clicked in excitedly after seeing the title, but were disappointed after reading it, and they cursed below:
Big party? Where's the drugs and chicks?
You see, this is the cultural difference.
A friend of mine (a real friend!) once told me about this scene at a party he attended:
Accompanied by deafening music, a group of people drink and jump around, and when the atmosphere is right, they start smoking leaves or taking ecstasy, and then all kinds of monsters and demons come out.
For example, find a girl you like and bring her to a room to discuss the meaning of life. Sometimes you don’t even need a room and can just do it in a corner.
My friend said that this scene shattered his worldview and he ran away after staying there for more than half an hour.
Emily Zhang, a Chinese-American reporter for Bloomberg, once revealed the tip of the iceberg of such parties in her book "Extreme Male Power":
The event usually starts with a simple dinner. After people have had enough wine and food, the waiter brings the "main character" - drugs. "This makes a group of strangers who were a little shy just now become as close as lovers." After they realize this, they will hold their "partners" hands and go upstairs to the room to make love. After dawn, the organizers provide them with breakfast, followed by another round of drugs and alcohol, and repeat this script over and over again.
To be honest, this kind of scene, which is like in the animal world, subverts the three views of the Chinese people.
If you are interested, you can ask your friends who have returned from studying abroad but have not done well in academic performance and love to play about the party. It is guaranteed to satisfy your craving for fun.
Now you know why Asians can’t get along, right? Because the education that most Chinese people (whether they are ABCs or those who came later) received since childhood cannot accept such a scene of chaos.
But in the eyes of Americans, when "have fun" and "be cool" become a circle culture, if you don't join in, you deserve to be isolated and discriminated against, and you will have no chance to develop.
On the contrary, only by actively entering such a circle and proving that you are a member of the "circle" can you be recognized. This is very important in the environment of the United States, where "elite culture" is very strong (now you know why some famous American schools have small circles such as "fraternities" and "Skull and Bones Society"?).
Therefore, once you receive an invitation to Diddy's "Freak Offs" party, it means entering the elite circle that Diddy has created, and everyone will be proud of it.
Of course, the invited people are also divided into levels. Some are VIPs, and some are just in the atmosphere group. VIPs can vent their desires in the atmosphere group at will, no matter how exaggerated and unbearable, even beating, abuse and other behaviors are allowed.
For Diddy, what he needs to do is to maintain the "high quality" and "coolness" of the party.
So he would make a series of careful arrangements. He would book the most luxurious hotel suite or pool villa in the area, set up the lighting and sound system, prepare alcohol and ecstasy (some ecstasy were customized in the shape of Diddy's company logo), and prepare doctors to give them intravenous drips to restore their strength when their guests were exhausted.
Of course, these service staff all received generous hush money to ensure that the guests could freely reveal the ugly side of their human nature.
So the question is, in order to satisfy the various perverted desires of the guests, how many girls are willing to be treated as playthings, violated, beaten, and abused?
Except for a few sex workers, most of the others were toys found by Diddy.
For example, for some boys and girls (including minors) who dream of becoming stars, Diddy will use the resources in the circle as temptation and deceive them that he will help them become famous, but they must accept the "circle test."
For example, some socialites, who are actually American "gold diggers", are always thinking about getting to know the powerful and wealthy, so once they receive an invitation, they will immediately dress up and go to such a party to "take a chance".
But by the time they arrived at the party and discovered the strange ways in which the powerful played games, it was too late.
Under the pretext of "helping to develop careers", Diddy has recruited a large number of young men and women who dream of becoming stars. Even if these people are humiliated at parties, they often remain silent for the sake of their own careers.
Therefore, Diddy's dark empire was not exposed until 2023 when his ex-girlfriend Cathy Windra turned against him.
